  • Okay, as if the stock S1000RR didn’t do enough to decimate the competition, BMW has come out with the S1000RR HP4, which is basically a tuned-up, faster and more gizmo-laced version of the stock motorcycle. The HP4 is to S1000RR what the ‘Factory APRC’ version is to the Aprilia RSV4.
  • The HP – for High Performance – has been the designation given to many racers-for-the-road for seven years now and this one is the first four-cylinder motorcycle to bear the HP tag. This HP4 is 2.2 kgs lighter than the stock version but that’s not what the bike is all about. So, what is it about, then?
  • It’s about electronics and loads of it. This is a homologation special and BMW claims that this is the first production motorcycle in the world to feature suspension with Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), a system that changes compression and rebound damping depending on whether you’re accelerating, braking or cornering.
  • It also gets a Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) system with modes for racetrack using on slick tyres. 15 levels of adjustment are available, and they can be adjusted on-the-fly. The ABS is also more track-biased than before. The modes includes Rain, Sport and Race. The HP4 has also been tuned to give full power in all modes, unlike the stock model.
  • Besides, they’ve got Launch Control, a wheelie control system, forged alloy wheels, radial Brembo monoblock callipers, a titanium exhaust and a quick shifter. Heck, this is as close as you probably get to a World Superbike racer without blowing a fortune.
