Based on the Aria platform; new car on the inside appears like a facelift on the outside

Tata Motors has showcased their new Tata Safari Storme at the 2012 Auto Expo. The Safari Storme is based on the Tata Aria platform and has new underpinnings. The size and outward appearance of the SUV, however, remain largely unchanged.

On the outside, the front and rear end of the Safari have been reworked and facelifted. The Storme is shod with 17-inch Bridgestone 235/65 tyres. The car also comes with new projector headlamps, a new power bulge on the hood, a new grille, new tailgate, new chrome-tipped exhaust and aerodynamic spoiler on the rear.

On the inside are a host of new features that make the Safari Storme more premium and livable. The insides are also more spacious now and come with beige seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel. The gear lever gets a chrome tip too, while the dash and door get wood-finish. There is a new instrument cluster as well, and for comfort of the driver and front seat passenger is a lumbar support feature.

Onto the engine, then. The Safari gets a 2.2-litre 16-valve common-rail DiCOR engine that makes 138 bhp and has 32.4 kgm of peak torque on offer. This is mated to a 5-speed gearbox, same as the one on the Tata Aria. This gearbox was upgraded from the one on the older Safari. The car also has rack and pinion steering, dual SRS airbags.

While the car is 85 per cent new, due to the mild changes to the exterior, it does look like all that has happened is a facelift, however.

What is this new back about... really looks shoddy and gives a Tavera feel to the vehicle... better return the back of the earlier Safari.

the new one is bullshit...... Tata motors will get a bumper flop this year with this new safari....... my dream car is no more .....the new ugly model of Tata safari

Hey guys..i don't understand why TATA removed Spare Wheel From Rear Door.....That Adds a Nice look To Tata Safari.... i request them to add it back... because its give a nice SUV look to safari....

My daddy owned one Tata safari car and ever since he bought the car he had never say any bad comment about it

This new look is very elegant and i'm sure it grows on you with time. XUV is very ugly compared to this and someone saying XUV is good looking certainly are out of their minds, of course looks are subjective, but still XUV is ugly!! XUV became hit because of price-features equation, which Mahindra was able to tailor perfectly for Indian mind set.

Wasted time by waiting to see the new Safari, which we thought would be something in line with the current design trends. This design would have looked good 10years back, (the original safari was much better!!!

Though I am a GREAT FAN of the SAFARI yet the hype created, more than 1.5 years, spy pictures et all. Well frankly teh end product has greatly disappointed. Bringing out this with just few cosmetic changes, this could have been done in 1.5 weeks. We all expected & all new vehicle, with a lot of Land Rover stuff thrown in at prices below teh XUV500. TATA's have misfired again. Maybe they are getting used to it. XUV is nowhere a Scorpio. This thing is exactly the old one with more lip gloss & makeup. Doubt if this will make any considerable dent in the market. Priced at over 10 lacs its a nonmover from day one.

Not Good!!!! The first model was more impressive

Tata motors have a confused designing team. They have botched up a legend. The old Safari with its clean flowing lines, proportionate dimensions, superlative driving and riding comfort and strong road presence is really legendary. To keep up with the times, and become a sure winner, it's size needed to be scaled down a bit and the agression to be scaled up a bit to appeal to new generation SUV buyers who would like value for money. The new design is more like a Cargo Ship an utter disappointment. TATAs please continue with your present SAFARI rather than storming at the SAFARI legend with this ugly duckling. Looking forward to a really upgraded and appealing SAFARI in the next Auto Expo.

The styling/features of the new XUV500 simply blew the market away and M&M knew they had a winner on the day the 500 was unveiled. Sorry to say, after more than a year and a half of waiting, the new safari looks like a shoddy aftermarket revamp job that is at least a generation behind the XUV500. One would have expected a better effort from the owners of the JLR group keeping in mind the pool of expertise and technology at hand. The Safari used to be a legend. I feel that the new Safari wont even begin to evoke a fraction of the response that the earlier version did when it was launched. Prospective buyers will shy away from buying this vehicle if not priced intelligently considering the slew of affordable, better built options available in the SUV market now.
