Ford Figo - First driving impressions

1. The Figo follows Ford's design DNA. It appears sporty in the traditional sort of way. There are nice strong design elements like the broad waist line and the chunky wheel arches that make it appear large.

2. Ford's used the Kinetic design process for this car too and as Scott Strong from the design team put it, the tear-drop silhouette give its a front-end bubble effect with a tapering rear-end

3. The interior is spacious and big for a car of its class. Ford claims that the legroom, headroom and shoulder room are better than its closest competition - the Suzuki Swift. In fact, the rear legroom is better than even the VW Polo!

4. The red injection moulding on the dashboard is optional and while the effect is debatable, most who saw it loved it.

5. The regular dashboard is a two-tone affair with a different colour for the top of the dashboard. Though this doesn't cause reflections on the windscreen

I say chaps, I saw Figo 1st hand and I really liked it. Compared to Beat, Swift, Ritz it is far more beautiful with lots of features. I think the only car to compare with it is \'VW-Polo\'. know what, pls check the specs b4 giving opinions...doesn\'t help...:-)

This is a good insight on the Ford FIGO. Although you have covered on most of the issues, but One thing which I noticed while checking out this Car and which you have not mentioned is that GETTING & OUT OF THE CAR IS A BIT PAINFUL. THE KNEES HIT THE STEERING AND THIS PROBLEM PERSIST WITH THE TOP END MODEL ALSO, which comes with Seat Height adjustment.

I say chaps, get to know the specs b4 commenting. The bottom line is Figo is a fantastic car for us, the best recently launched apart from VW-Polo. If it\'s painful to get in & out, get another tallboy design car, or better still, a bus.The specifications of it for the segment it is catering to is met and we love it\'s classic-looks.

For those belittling old technology; I suggest you compare the oldest gen Maruti 800 and the latest gen Maruti 800 or compare the Palio GTX to the latest Palio 1.6 sport or the old Corolla to the new Altis or the Landmaster to the latest Ambassador or Premier President to the last released Premier Padmini or Merc W124 chassis to the latest gen Merc W211 chassis. The list can go on. I agree old tech is old tech but just check out the build quality and get ready to be surprised. I too vehemently oppose companies dumping old tech into India but if they provide good build quality I would be more than willing to take the bitter pill. Bitter pill it sure is but it will take some more time for the whites to understand that India and China is where the money is for a few more years to come and treating us like lower class citizens is not in their better economic interest.

1. The engine power is the least in the segment. 2. 60% of the rear window doesn't roll down. Surely they don't need rear power window. 3. A lovely (out of anger) red color dash board, form where they brought this color. 4. Boot opener on the co-driver side

Somehow the car design doesn't feel exciting. On the positive side it isn't snazzy either. Pricing will be the key. one key figure needed- any idea about the mileage? I am very keen how much the frugal Tdci is capable of in a smaller car.

I think it was a fine first drive report from BSMotoring. Well done guys. To Rukesh, Fiesta is old gen platform vehicle yet its one of the finest midsize cars. Looks wise too its handsome and bettered only by Linea and Honda City. Though Figo is derived from the old platform what matters is whether the Ride, Handling and Steering are best in class. Based on initial reports I believe Figo scores high on these. I think Figo Diesel will turn out to be the best diesel small car.

Ford is making a classic mistake in India thinking price is the only consideration. to Indian car buyers design matters and this design is absolute rubbish. Selling older generation technology on older generation platforms just because India is a developing country does not mean Ford can get away with it. The average Indian buyer are quite sophisticated as Renault has found out the hard way with the Logan. Let me ask a few question - Would Ford have gotten away with the Figo in Europe? To Ford if they are listening - don't underestimate the Indian buyer. Marketing a car as being specially designed for India is just that - a marketing tactic. The Indian buyers will see through this sooner or later. Why don't they consider bringing the Ka or the Focus to India

Admin, firstly sorry about the language of the previous comment. Had been in a bit of a foul mood back then, and so the comment ended up coming off as quite rude. Thanks though, for treating it maturely! I think you did a fair job in *not* hyping a new car up unnecessarily - you mentioned the fact that the diesel is an old engine, with NVH issues. Similarly with gearbox etc. So that was nice. In that same neutral vein, I think it would be fair to readers / potential buyers that just one of the twenty points out here at least *briefly* mention that its an older-gen car. I am sure a lot of regular non-enthusiasts wouldnt be aware of this despite earlier mentions, and yet a not-insignificant proportion of these might rule out the Figo if they were to know. I totally agree that eventually the market as a whole is going to decide what value to assign to the Figo, and may indeed like it despite its age, if its priced accounting for that. But on a granular basis, I feel a potential buyer w

Rukesh, Get Well Soon! Frugal review I must say. If rear leg room stays as shown in images & price remains at 3.6L than it will be most practical Hatch in india.

Is using an older generation chassis really so bad?? If it seems to do the job then why reinvent just for sake of introducing something new. The so called older generation chassis is solid and well proven and also has WRC breeding. Mind you, introducing 'new' models by Toyota and Honda have been partly in reponse to makers like Ford and GM came out with so called 'old' models to compete with the then 'latest' models by Japs.

Also some things make no sense. "Ford will sell the car with six colours initially. These colours are aptly named like Chill, Squeeze..." What is chill colour? Or squeeze colour? Please think and write instead of copying the marketing bullsh*t. Thanks - ES

Would you have died to mention that this is in fact a phased out older-generation Fiesta from Europe? That it would have slightly inferior Engines, Body stiffness, Safety zones etc being essentially an old car? And the design? Apart from the attempt at the headlamps, the car is essentially the same as a 2003 Fiesta. Dont you feel the need to criticize Ford for treating Indian consumers this way? Companies such as Honda and Toyota on the other hand launch their latest cars here. How is a customer to know he is being taken for a ride when magazines such as yours stay mum???

Rukesh, beating around the bush and telling our readers over and over again that the chassis is a last-gen Fiesta really won't help. We have at more than one moment in the past made references to the Figo's platform, some of them have been critical too, and the general reader is aware of this fact. At the end, it is for the reader or potential buyer to decide what works best for him or her. Besides, re-using or re-hashing existing platforms to create a new car isn't a new phenomenon either. Eventually the market forces are big enough to decide what works best for it. So it is either to Ford's gain or loss.

So what if its an older generation fiesta. The older fiesta was a perfectly fine car to start with: practical and fun. I think its sensible not to mess with a winning formula ! However, I wish ford would also offer a version with an automatic gearbox.
