As motoring journalists we do quite a bit of travelling and spend an alarming amount of time waiting in airport lounges, but these past couple of weeks, I’ve been shuttling from town to town the old fashioned way - in a car!
A couple of drives had me behind constantly shuttling from city to city the scenic way. And you know what? I’ve enjoyed most of it but there were some parts I wish I didn’t have to endure. I did realise that I’m a huge fan of road trips though. When you fly somewhere, you usually hit the airport, then head straight for wherever you’re going. But when you drive, you get to take in all the sights of the city and sometimes even the, err, smells.
The destination is an important part, of course, but we all know the trip is always more fun. In my case, it didn’t work out so well though. Being sick while on a road trip is the worst thing to happen to anyone and being sick while on a road trip to the hills, well, that’s not something you’d wish on your enemies, even. But here I was somewhere near the foothills of the Shivaliks with a stomach that just wouldn’t co-operate and civilisation many, many hours away! A lot of agony later, I managed to get back home and get it checked out.
Very soon after that, another road trip opportunity presented itself and, being a slight masochist, I too that offer up as well, so here I was, still recovering from the last road trip setting off on another 2000km odyssey. Thankfully, this one was far more enjoyable with nary a mishap, so here I am again, back home with a few thousand kilometers under my belt in a very short period of time. I’m definitely looking forward to the next big road trip now!
